Bio Uli has a long-standing interest in media and design, having worked as a multimedia developer and freelance graphic, web and multimedia designer for over a decade. Right after completing his Fine Arts Masters degree in communication design at Muthesius Academy in Kiel, Uli moved to Lübeck, the other major city in the State of Schleswig-Holstein, to join the First Generation of students at ISNM. The strong interdisciplinary conception of ISNM’s Master of Science programme attracted him most: exploring new media technology from its historical roots to its most current developments in the context of media & society, media theory and philosophy discussions, led by international scholars. He expanded and deepened this interest during his semester abroad at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His Masters thesis, “The Imaginative Device: Towards A Methodology Of Possibility” develops a cognitive method for the analysis of complex data systems aimed at an understanding through knowing how a system behaves instead of knowing its parts. Upon graduation he founded his own company, noesis studio, with his ISNM classmate, fellow alumnus Greg Judelman. Noesis Studio has undertaken projects like trip_pics, an interface concept sketch for a travel photo map archiving and presentation software.
