LiveMusicPortal (LMP) is a new platform for musicians in Europe. Everyday we experience new, interesting multimedia services in the Internet. Voice over IP (Internet Telephony) replaces conventional telephones, video-conferences help to reduce the travel budget in many companies. The Internet explores all areas of our daily live, the world is growing together!

But what about musicians? Yes, you can download and share music files. You can also listen to Internet radio and other media streaming services. Due to the high delay values and unpredictable qualities of many Internet links, realtime music playing over long distances has not been possible so far.

In the LiveMusicPortal project, the ISNM has developed SoundJack, a new software to minimize the network effects on realtime music streams and to support network based musical interactions. The project also created a new web portal, where you can participate and perform music over the Internet from your home DSL connection. You can register, edit your profile, search for partners, perform sessions and take part in contests directly on the Internet. Join our European community and let's rock!

The feasibility of the approach has been shown on several events with live music performances between many cities in Europe (Luebeck, Hamburg, Berlin, Paris, etc.) and with many interesting musicians and DJs involved (see also event list below): Sebastian Winkelmann, Lübeck (DJ), Andre Naszada, Lübeck (DJ), Prof. Wolf Kerschek, Hamburg (Vibraphone), Ninon Gloger, Lübeck (Piano), Olaf Koep, Lübeck (Drums), Reso Kidnaze, Lübeck (Saxophone), Prof. Andreas Hirche, Berlin (Piano), Sarah Morrow, New York (Trombone), Jennifer Quillet, Paris (Trumpet), etc.

This project was realized with a number of partners:
