  PROJECTS

ISNM Tangible Archive
Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Andreas Schrader,
Prof. Dr. Michael Docherty (University of Queensland)
Team: Abdul Ahad, Imran Ahmad, Boy Avianto, Alma Azzoni, Darren Carlson, Sönke Dohrn, Brian Egan, Omar Hanoun, Armen Kasamanyan, Wendy-Ann Mansilla, Mohamadou Nassourou, Fernanda Scur, Ranjan Shetty
The Tangible Archive of the ISNM was developed during the Digital Library Class. The idea is to represent student projects with physical objects in a shelf. The objects are equipped with electronic (RFID) labels. Placed on the "smart desk" inside the library, the label ID is scanned by an inbuilt antenna and the respective project description is shown automatically on the display. By simply placing the tangible physical objects onto the "smart desk" the system allows easy queries without any complex human-computer-interactions

Guardian Angel
Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Bernhard Jung, Prof. Dr. Andreas Schrader
Team: Boy Avianto, Darren Carlson, Brian Egan, Abdul Ahad, Ranjan Shetty, Nicole Kohlrausch
In this game, Tangible User Interfaces are combined with Augmented Reality technologies to create an immersive game experiment. The goal of the game is to balance on a virtual rope across the towers of Lübeck using a real balancing stick. Don't get nervous!

Fruit Salad
Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Bernhard Jung, Prof. Dr. Andreas Schrader
Team: Sönke Dohrn, Alma Azzoni, Armen Kasamanyan, Omar Hanoun, Mohamadou Nassourou, Wendy-Ann Mansilla
In this multi-player computer game, real fruits can be used to create a fruit salad in the virtual world by using Tangible User Interfaces. The goal of the game is to create the most tasty fruit salad. May the fruit with you!

ALADIN
Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Andreas Schrader
Team: Abdul Ahad, Boy Avianto, Alma Azzoni, Darren Carlson, Sönke Dohrn, Brian Egan, Omar Hanoun, Armen Kasamanyan, Nicole Kohlrausch, Wendy-Ann Mansilla, Mohamadou Nassourou, Ranjan Shetty
ALADIN - The ghost of the wonder lamp - is a mobile ubiquitous computing environment. Users are equipped with mobile devices that are able to scan their location by using Infrared, Bluetooth and RFID location tracking techniques. Authentication is realized using biometric access methods.
The context information (user, location, objects) triggers a list of context-based services to be available. These services can be customized and tailored to the specific needs and requirements of the respective context spot. The ALADIN infrastructure can be used for many different applications, like mobile tour guides, interactive mobile cinema, pervasive games and many more.

ALADIN Tour Guide
Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Andreas Schrader,
Dominik Busch Kunsthochschule Berlin)
Team: Brian Egan, Mohamadou Nassourou, Darren Carlson
The service in this film was developed within the Ubiquitous Computing course. In this service, students, teachers and visitors are guided through the campus. The PDA handheld device scans the environment using RFID and gives location-based information. The tour guide is demonstrated by an example, showing a guest searching for certain persons to meet.

ChillPill
Supervisor: Dominik Busch (Kunsthochschule Berlin), Prof. Dr. Schrader
Team: Shahzad Naseem & Muhammad Siddiqui
Chill Pill is about taking a "Chill Pill" after work. When you are exhausted after a days work, you need to relax. Call your family and release the stress!

Autophobia
Supervisor: Dominik Busch (Kunsthochschule Berlin), Prof. Dr. Schrader
Team: Ranjan Shetty & Wendy Ann Mansilla
Autophobia shows transitional consciousness. From the abstraction of reality, a new awareness of the environment is created. May your imagination be triggered!

Confusion
Supervisor: Dominik Busch (Kunsthochschule Berlin), Prof. Dr. Schrader
Team: Sönke Dohrn, Boy Avianto & Armen Kasamanyan
The whole life is a puzzle. So what do you expect? Wherever you go you have to solve the puzzle. Frustrating? Wait until you see that solving the puzzle just brings you to the next!

Library's Memories
Supervisor: Dominik Busch (Kunsthochschule Berlin), Prof. Dr. Schrader
Team: Omar Hanoun & Panayiotis Petropoulos
The McLuhan Documentation Center is the central source of information for the ISNM. Inside the library you see students searching quietly for books and studying for exams. Do you? This film project will change your concept of a library totally. Forever!

Connections
Supervisor: Dominik Busch (Kunsthochschule Berlin), Prof. Dr. Schrader
Team: Fernanda Scur & Arthur Max Oliveira
Connections is a series of clips (documentary-like) consisting of interviews with people from different nations, cultures and religions about their relationship to God and to other people from different nations, cultures and religions.

Imaginary Soundscapes
Supervisor: Dr. Joachim Stange-Elbe
Team: Boy Avianto, Omar Hanoun, Shahzad Naasem, Artur Max Oliveira, Panayiotis Petropolous, Ranjan Shetty, Fernanda Scur, Muhammad Siddiqui
Participants of these three-day workshop in cooperation with the Studios MediaDocks learned to deal with the most modern studio technology and 'developed' music without any use of classical instruments. This modern 'compositional method' using the computer is used more and more for sound production for Internet web pages, videos or DVDs. The results of this workshop are recorded on a CD and will be presented during the Open House.

Conflict Management Agents
Supervisors: Prof. Dr. Bernhard Jung, Dipl.-Inform. Matthias Weber
Team: Abdul Ahad, Alma Azzoni, Wendy-Ann Mansilla, Panayiotis Petropoulus
Recent advances in real-time computer graphics facilitate the design of interactive virtual agents capable of displaying a wide range of emotional facial expressions: happiness, surprise, sadness, anger, fear, etc. Our idea is to exploit this for the development of a new generation of e-learning tools that support the training of social interaction skills of professionals such as doctors who are often exposed to emotionally critical situations.
A first prototype system was developed with the goal to train medical students not only to solve a medical problem but also to take into account the social and emotional context of the patient treatment situation. Virtual agents are used to simulate both the injured children and their easily angered parents
