Introduction

eyeJOT is metaphor for how we might want a birds eye view or overview of the activities on and off the university campus, it is an interactive community bulletin system based on ubiquitous computing technologies. Users (students, faculty, campus guests and administration members) can access information about campus news, activities and a semester schedule. eyeJOT uses a combination of new technology as Bluetooth and SMS together with a new navigation metaphor combine distance and time.

Architecture/Concept

eyeJOT uses smart devices, mobiles, Bluetooth, Short massages “SMS” and file transfer protocol “FTP” for supporting knowledge exchange. This allows users to send and receive information which includes; text, images, sounds and other multimedia content.

The interaction between the user and system is based on proximity and location. In order to achieve this we use the physical space and time space relationships as primary navigational cues for eyeJOT. This allows users to use their physical proximity from eyeJOT as a way to navigate the system and acquire more detailed information about activities at the university. eyeJOT is not replacement of the existing web-based knowledge platforms but it gives fast, easy and continuous connectivity without the needs to be in front of computer screens, to access the information. Only by approaching eyeJOT users will get complete view about the campus.

Technology

eyeJOT is relaying on multiple layers. These layers are communicated to each other by special interfaces. The idea of having layers is to isolate the hardware, application layer “eyeJOT engine” and the graphical design to allow for more flexibility. These layers including Bluetooth layer supported by eyeJOT framework layer based on Microsoft.NET technology. The web interface layer based on Php and Mysql technology provides flexible communicate with eyeJOT database and web interface. The graphical interface layers generating dynamic graphics based on the internal event listener.

Conclusion / Achieved Objectives

eyeJOT is a new model of knowledge exchange, to encourage a rich community building communication tool and interaction. The competitive factors are reducing time and effort to access information. Open new channels of exchanging knowledge by the usage of the multimedia such as text, photos as well as the free SMS service. Integrating the ubiquitous functionality of eyeJOT can be competitive factor for the future university, company and organization.
